Integration update: Tableau Data Sources

In addition to displaying Tableau workbooks, worksheets, and dashboards in column-level lineage graphs, Metaplane now also supports Tableau Data Sources!

How does Metaplane support data quality in Tableau?

If you’re a Tableau user, you’re already familiar with the concept of Data Sources as the primary building blocks for your insights. Now, with the inclusion of Data Sources into your lineage graphs, you can better understand how your data flows into your workbooks.

That need for upstream lineage is why our product team made sure to carefully cover the sources behind your Tableau data sources. Whether you’re using Live connections, Extracts, or even custom SQL queries, you’re able to see all data sources in lineage as shown below.

Dark blue icons indicate Tableau objects. Purple objects on the top left are tables in the warehouse.

By integrating your Tableau instance with Metaplane, you’ll be able to understand:

  1. How data quality incidents discovered by Metaplane impact your Tableau users, so that you can proactively alert them to ongoing issues
  2. Which tables and fields are associated with faulty Tableau data to reduce triage time

How do I connect Tableau to Metaplane?

To integrate Tableau in Metaplane, you’ll need your connection details and a user token to be generated. You can find a detailed walkthrough of steps in our documentation.

If you have your connection details and a user token ready to go, add the connection through this link.

How do I get started with Metaplane?

If you don’t currently have a Metaplane account, there are two ways that you can get started:

  1. Sign up for free here: Integrating your data stack should take about 20 minutes.
  2. Book a workshop with our data observability experts if you’re looking to understand more about what data observability is and how Metaplane works.
